  1. Part of me can see that this is a creative way of paying tribute to memorialisation but the greater part of me feels that photographs/online ‘artwork’ hould NOT show personal details; this is grossly intrusive to the memory of other people’s loved ones…

    • Hello Enekpe,

Thank you for your comment. We do understand your concerns with the personal details being shown. This competition is about the beauty of stone “then and now” and does not necessarily have to show the details. We have for both years asked all entrants to either get permission from the owners/next of kin or the council/church before taking pictures of the stones. We hope that this eliminates any intrusion.

For most memorials over 70 years old, you do not need to get permission however it is always best to ask the crematorium or cemetery just in case.

I hope that this answers your questions.

      Manythanks,
      MAB

      • Thank you, yes that does answer my questions. Best of luck to all entrants.
        Kind regards,
        Enekpe

  2. Eh? I have read and re read the above but cannot see where it you have ‘all entrants to either get permission from the owners/next of kin or the council/church before taking pictures of the stones.’

  3. After reading the above I am left wondering if a valid entry has to contain headstones or memorials, or doesn’t it matter as long as there is one of them? Both can be very different looking but generally made from stone. Memorials can be huge.

    • Hi Richard,

Thank you for your comment and for bringing this to my attention. On the MAB website we do include this information (www.memorialawarenessboard.com).

I shall add this to the blog page now. I look forward to your entry!

  4. Agree with above comment, I can’t see anything in the rules. Will any image be rejected if it wins and no permission had been requested.

    • Hi Harry,

Thanks for your comment. It is not a rule as such, we advise that you do contact the next of kin or council/church to overcome any moral issues, however unless the pictures are to be published then we will not reject any entries. Hope that helps!

  5. You must submit two (2) photographs. One of ‘then’ and one of ‘now’ and email mab@oneismore.com with your name, postal address, telephone number and a descriptions of the images including location where taken.

Please confirm that the photos must also be sent by email.

  6. Hi above it says the closing date is 30th September 2011 (under TIming section) but in the answer to the questions and a promotional email I have recieved it is stated as being the 2nd of September.

    Please can you clarify, thanks

  7. Hello!
I was wondering if you could define “modern” more precisely for me – e.g. post 1950?
I’ve no problem photographing headstones of, say, 25 years ago, but feel “Intrusive” doing so on those of someone more recently interred.

    Kindest regards

    • Hi Bruce,

Thanks for your great question.. The idea for this competition is that it is your perception of ‘then’ and ‘now’, so it may be a victorian and modern headstone or it could be the style – one you believe to be modern and the other older but they are in fact from the same year. As long as you give us a brief description as to why you chose both headstones and why you perceive them to be ‘then’ and ‘now’ then we are happy to accept your entry. I hope this makes sense, please let me know if you have any further queries.

      Good luck!
      MAB

  8. hi
when I Emailed you yesterday about people being in the foreground, is “goths” allowed ,and a number of headstones in the picture, also is the two winning images being used for promotion
    purposes?
    Regards Dennis

    • Hi Dennis, ‘goths’ are allowed – anything that you think is suitable to make the picture look nice as long as the reasons behind it are explained in the description.

The competition is to raise awareness of the beauty of stone to British consumers. The Memorial Awareness Board is a campaign working on behalf of all memorial masons.

Once the competition reaches its deadline, a shortlist will be announced and we shall contact the local press of the entrant. Before we do this we will ask for your permission so it is completely up to you if you wish to have your pictures publicised or not.

I do hope that makes sense. If you have any other questions please let us know.

      Many thanks, MAB

    • Hi Roy,

      Thank you for your question.

By entering this competition you give The Memorial Awareness Board the
rights to use the photographs entered for future publicity work. One is More
& MAB may use images in conjunction with entrants local press. Those
      short-listed will be contacted beforehand.

      Hope that helps.

      • Hi,

I have a fantastic photo I wanted to enter for the old picture (taken in 2008), but the photo is of slightly lower resolution than the 2480 x 1748 you specify as a minimum, this is 2256×1496. Will it be disqualified. It’s a real shame if it is not accepted, it’s a fantastic shot – I could not replicate the sky and light situations again! Happy to send it to you and let you decide? Can you check with the judges?
        Thanks!

        Ed

  9. I have just tried entering the competition, and received an email back for delivery failure. It says that it cannot be delivered to the recipient mab@oneismore.com
Please help. I’d really like to enter the competition, but I’m not sure what to do if the email isn’t working.
    Thank you.

    • Hi Emma,

I’m very sorry that you cannot seem to send your entry. Could you please check that the files are not too big to send (I think our server can take up to 10MB on one email)? If this is the case you can send them in two emails or use a file sharing website like YouSendIt. https://www.yousendit.com/

Let us know how that goes, if for some reason it still does not work then you could send them to us on a CD. Let me know and I will give you our address.

We look forward to receiving your entry!
